Suicide Melody
01-05-2011

The Arts and Culture department of the Commune of Rotterdam supports the script development of Suicide Melody. The feature film narrates a new television program, where a selected group of people with a death wish face each other in a suicide home. A tv-audience decides by vote who is allowed to commit suicide and will be given a celebrity status. Pushed by the whims of this invisible, but always present public, the inhabitants try to wrest from the compelling grip of the program and seek another solution for their fear to live. Production by Studio REV, Rotterdam.

Showing from: saturday 12 march - saturday 5 june 2011
Opening on saturday 12 March at 16:00 hour.
Opening speech by Prof. Petran Kockelkoren.

Rabbits can't swim
In urban society, evenings are no longer dark. The photo series Rabbits can’t swim show
those nocturnal environments, that are determined by artificial lights; where skies are no
longer black, but green, yellow or pink.
Rabbits can’t swim hearts the conflict between human space and natural space; the
insoluble contrast. The two can meet but will never fully join. The title playfully hints at
this incompatibility. The artificial light attempts to unify nature with its human mastery,
but ultimately deprives her of its elusive beauty, remaining indefinite and ominous.
