Imperial Isle, 2013
This new work is part of the project 'Made in Tokyo'.
Shinjuku Gyoen (Shinjuku Park). The imperial Gardens, which were once meant for the royalty, were completed in 1906 and destroyed in 1945, during the later stages of World War II. The gardens were restored and nowadays blend three distinct styles: French Formal, English Landscape and Japanese traditional. The 'Imperial Isle' features a remain of the traditional Japanese style that was solely used before the demolition.
