About
CINDY JANSEN (Veghel, NL, 1976) Lives and works in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Cindy Jansen studied at the Academy of Visual Arts in Arnhem (Netherlands) and Milan (Italy), and completed the International Script Development and Directors Program at the Binger Filmlab in Amsterdam. Her films and visual works have been presented at numerous international festivals including Hamburg, Rotterdam and Edinburgh, and exhibited at venues such as Loop Barcelona, the Noorderlicht Photo Festival in Groningen, and the Gerhard Hofland Gallery in Amsterdam.
Moving between experimental video and feature-length documentary, Jansen’s work is marked by cinematic precision and a contemplative rhythm, exploring identity, power and belonging within intimate human relationships. Through works such as Don’t Hit Me I Love You, With Love, and Auld Lang Syne (IFFR 2015, Golden Calf nomination), she examines the psychological and emotional layers of these relationships.
This exploration reaches a more universal scope in Prince of Muck (2021), which premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival and later screened at IDFA, followed by a theatrical release in the Netherlands and international broadcast and streaming. It further broadens toward questions of authority, masculinity and social structures in her latest film, Sovereign Son, which premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (2026) and will be released in Dutch cinemas in June 2026.
